Jonas is a roboticist, engineer and researcher. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering (Mechatronics) and a Master of Science in Engineering (Robotics) from UAS Zurich. During and after his studies, he worked as an engineer and research assistant at The University of Tokyo and ETH Zurich. From 2012, he spent 3 years in Japan working as a research engineer at Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International in Kyoto. Among other projects, there he developed an open-source middleware for cloud-based robotic services and a new mobile robot platform for research in 3D and audio mapping. On the industry side, Jonas has contributed to R&D projects for Varian Medical Systems, Projectina, Mesa Imaging, Honda and Panasonic. Early 2015, he joined the chair of Architecture and Digital Fabrication at ETH Zurich as a researcher. Since mid-2017, he is leading the chair's applied research in construction robotics at Singapore-ETH Centre. Investigating the automation of tiling work, he developed a novel mobile manipulator with an integrated automatic adhesive application system. In 2020, this robot successfully completed the world's first autonomous tiling job on a live construction site. Jonas' professional interests include mechatronic design of autonomous systems, mobile manipulation and robotic automation in architecture and construction. |
